Sean D'lo is back for the third time this year with another project, bringing the second installment in his We Workin' On It series, titled - Streets Is Watchin'. This is Sean's first completely self produced project with him having production credits on every eerie, ominous, anxiety inducing, paranoia causing beat on this project.
Sean takes a slightly different direction this time, with the production. While there are still soul laced tracks here on this EP, for the most part, this is a very dark project which immediately sets it apart from his previous works, including Egress II. The topic matter takes a shift as well, this time coming from an
angle of that same paranoia baked into the production. Themes of surveillance, too much attention, and just in general being watched by a number of groups and people show up on this project and it makes for a heart racing listen. as said by D'lo himself, "I wanted to make something that felt cinematic from start to beginning. I didn't want to spell it out, but I wanted you to be able to listen to this from front to back and infer what was going on from track to track". That vision is painted full and well as with each track, you D'lo is able to create compelling narratives with crisp and cinematic beats as well as vivid lyrics that get the mood across from track to track.
Sean D'lo: I had such a fun time constructing this project. It went through a few different iterations structurally, initially aiming towards being a more direct story with skits laced in the tracks and everthing. Sort of like a Good Kid / MADD City type of thing. But I decided against it for two reasons. The biggest was due to me feeling like including the skits In the way I imagined, would take away from the flow of the project and I felt it'd be better without them. The other was just because it'd get really messy once we drop the deluxe and directors cut versions of this project. It just made more sense to leave that stuff out. But ultimately what I aimed at with this project was changing the sound up a bit from the last joint. I love that smooth, soulful production that appeared on Egress II, and it's not gone. It'll be back. I've been going crazy with the beats lately and I've been doing a lot with samples and soulful sounds, but for this joint we had to do something a little different, something I wasn't quite as comfortable with creating, but still felt noticeably D'lo. I think we achieved that with flying colors honestly.
